Word from the editor
Dear CyberAgent user,
If we think back, innovation, not only in the IT (Information Technology) industry but all categories, was measured in years. Today it’s measured in months and even weeks. I do believe that in the IT sector we will see this cycle continually accelerating. The same for the real estate. There will always be the “who is the best” and the strive “to get there first”.
“Real estate firms need to realign, indeed rethink, their team culture and structure to keep abreast of rapidly evolving marketplace and competitive pressures” This is what Eric Bryn said in 2009 already. And that is exactly what we did at CyberAgent.
We sold a controlling stake of our business (USP Designs) to JSE-listed media, Kagiso Media Limited (“Kagiso Media” or “the Group”). By incorporating CyberProp, CyberAgent, Knowledge Factory and South African Property Transfer Guide we are confident of a more holistic offering for the Property Market. Our vision is to be a channel for our Estate Agencies to increase their reach and exposure through online traffic while at the same time offering the consumer added choice, better information and more insight into the property market.
Howzit MSN, one of South Africa’s largest online portals, has revamped its property section in partnership with us. “This forms part of an aggressive push into the online property market for Howzit MSN and Kagiso Media. There is a great strategic fit between our strengths and focuses in the property market and those of CyberProp. CyberProp brings a massive database of properties to property buyers while we can offer an audience of more than two-million visitors to property sellers.” Says Howzit MSN general manager Marcus Stephens. To celebrate the new property section, Howzit MSN is giving away R20 000 in cash to one lucky winner with a fun competition.
Can you afford to say no?
Until next month!
Press release: Kagiso Media acquires stake in leading South African property portal
JSE-listed media, Kagiso Media Limited (Kagiso Media or the Group) has announced that it has acquired a controlling stake of (60%) in USP Designs (Pty) Ltd (USP Designs). USP Designs is a niche information technology business specialising in the real estate industry with two well established brands, namely CyberAgent that provides office management applications to its 1 400 real estate clients and CyberProp, one of the largest online property listing databases in South Africa portal with listings more than 155 000 entries.
The Group has identified the ownership of data together with annuity revenue streams as a strong growth driver which will enable it to achieve its growth and profitability goals. This new asset is regarded not only as an important building block in the Information and Other division, but it will immediately start generating positive returns for shareholders. Strategically, it will also enhance Kagiso Medias positioning as a leading provider of property related risk data, listing data and information to the financial services sector, estate agents, valuers, consumers and other property professionals in South Africa. The SAPTG brand within Knowledge Factory has approximately 900 real estate agents as clients, this acquisition significantly extends the reach of Kagiso Media into this sector of the industry.
This acquisition is in line with Kagiso Medias strategy to extend its reach into the Information and other value chain. It also meets our criteria of taking majority stakes in businesses that diversify our revenue streams away from traditional advertising, explains Murphy Morobe, CEO, Kagiso Media. The acquired businesses also have strong synergies with several of our assets including Howzit.MSN and Knowledge Factory as well as Juta & Company. The Juta transaction has been lodged with the Competition Authorities for their approval, the outcome of which will be issued at the end of May/early June.
Commenting on the rationale for joining forces with Kagiso Media, Willie van Schalkwyk, CEO and founder of CyberAgent and CyberProp commented that: Our team will continue to manage these businesses that have shown excellent growth over the last three years. We believe that this transaction leverages the potential of both CyberAgent and CyberProp as we will now gain access to Kagiso Medias extensive audience and services to sustain our growth into the long term.
The property stats stay a winner and we have more and more agencies striving to get that 100%!
To those who has manage to get that full count, CONGRATULATIONS!
From a CyberAgent user;
In your newsletter have you got a picture of a listing but it does have a Heading although the score sheet shows it does!
Well spotted, however this is actually filled in even though it looks like it is not.
If you load a heading in CAA, and there is not a corresponding entry in the Desktop version, it cannot show this in the interface due to how the database works, even though it does in fact have something filled in

Q: Is there any way of creating a report with the Sales Report Wizard in CyberAgent Desktop and then save it to import into another CyberAgent Desktop system.
A: You will need to create the report in the Sales Report Wizard under one of the system defined groups (Bonds STM or Sales Transfers (STM)). Once this is done, you can simply go to the Sales Transfer Manager, and under At a Glance page tab, click on Advance Reporting. At the bottom left, select your report and then click on Upload to Web
The other agency follows the same procedure, but just use Download from the Web instead
NB, to upload reports you will need to be logged in as Administrator
Q: Is it possible to have Cyberagent on more then one computer at the office?
A: Yes it is, all that need to make sure of is that there is a local area network in place in your office? If there is one it is a small matter of installing the secondary computers as client machines and connecting them to the Cyberagent server machine (The main Cyberagent computer) over the network.
Q: When I log into Cyberagent version 3 and I try to access my properties and or contacts, the database is empty. Why would this be?
A: it is possible that you are logging in with the username as user. Please dont login with this username, it is a default account that has no privileges assigned to it therefore your database will appear to be empty. Please make sure that you are logging in with your correct user login details
Should you experience any problems or have any questions, please contact our support desk on 011 955 9100 or email Support@cyberprop.com

THRIVE, DON'T JUST SURVIVE
Given the current economic climate, one would think that survival alone is worthy of celebration, which it may well be.
But "what got us here - won't take us there,". There is a clear difference between those who aim to survive and those who aim to exceed their past achievements, and thrive.
Here are three thought patterns for thriving by Hylton Gudmanz the Director of Focused People (focusedpeople.biz), a consultancy specialising in competitive advantage, engagement and organisational alignment.
This thinking is grounded in a "good enough" mindset -- "these sales figures are good enough for us," "this level of quality or service is good enough" - and it never is!
Our standards cannot decline, in the light of global competition.
If one's contribution is valuable, there's no need to be defensive about knowledge. Rather, sharing and mentoring can become a source of meaning and happiness.
Be concerned rather than worried
Lastly, "worry" often trumps "concern". Worrying is a way of dwelling on negative outcomes, and this constant re-enactment of what we dread will only stress us even more.
It's good to be concerned on the other hand, to think critically about consequences or possibilities. But then we must think critically about solutions, or sources of collaboration, and end our responsibility towards the risk.
May you choose to think in a "thriving" manner this week, rather than merely operating in survival mode.
EAAB NEWS Flash
THE ESTATE AGENCY AFFAIRS BOARD (EAAB) CONTINUES TO COOPERATE CLOSELY WITH THE FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE CENTRE (FIC) IN THE QUEST TO ELIMINATE MONEY LAUNDERING
While the EAAB is required by the Estate Agency Affairs Act to maintain and promote the standard of conduct of estate agents and to regulate the activities of estate agents with due regard to the public interest it also has the equal responsibility of supervising and enforcing compliance by all estate agency enterprises with the requirements of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (the FIC Act). The EAAB, as the Supervisory Body of the estate agency sector, has been granted authority to impose administrative sanctions on estate agents when satisfied, on the basis of all available facts and information, that an estate agency enterprise or estate agent has failed and/or neglected to comply with the provisions of the FIC Act or with any order, determination or directive made in terms of the FIC Act...
IEASA National - Important Announcement Regarding IEASA Members And Future Membership
Notwithstanding that over the past year or so a lot of effort has been made towards the transformation of IEASA in terms of the Labour Act to create a Labour organisation, which is going well, and an Employer organisation, which has to a large extent not been successful.
A number of attempts have been made over the years to form new structures, the most recent being REBOSA, for estate agent employers. The board mandated certain individuals with responsibilities to establish REBOSA from within the IEASA principals structures. However the mandate was not followed and crucial elements such as transformation, co-operation and unity were not key in the execution thereof...
The Institute of Estate Agents, Western Cape - Active year ahead for WCIEA
This year, the Western Cape Institute of Estate Agents will hold over 200 training and workshop sessions, thereby enhancing its reputation as the most active of all the Institute branches in SA and the one with the most committed members.
Dianne Brock, the general manager, said however, that it is important that all members and potential members realise that training is not the Institute's sole function. The Institute plays a key role, says Brock, in representing the real estate industry with state, provincial and municipal authorities who otherwise would go ahead on a less well informed basis when legislating for the real estate industry - and who do quite frequently have to be informed where difficulties are occurring...
